Old Bridgnorth Bridge Railings and bridge repair due to poor conditions and maintenance.
We the undersigned petition the council to We, the undersigned residents, businesses and visitors of Bridgnorth, wish to express our growing concern regarding the condition of the railings and stonework on Bridgnorth Old Bridge.
The bridge is one of the town’s most important landmarks and a significant part of Bridgnorth’s heritage. As a Grade I listed structure, it deserves regular maintenance and preservation to ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations.
Over recent years, many local residents have observed the continued deterioration of the railings and stonework. The bridge appears neglected, despite its historic significance and prominent position within the town.
We understand that volunteer offers to undertake basic cleaning of the railings have not been permitted. If local volunteers are unable to assist with the upkeep of the bridge, then we believe the responsibility falls squarely upon Shropshire Council, as the owner and custodian of this important asset, to ensure that appropriate maintenance is carri
It is also worth noting that in March 2026 Shropshire Council announced significant maintenance and renewal works for the bridge following inspections that identified repair needs, we are in June and no such repairs or maintenance has took place or even been scheduled
