The Shropshire Safeguarding Children's Board (SSCB) in Shropshire is a representative group of agencies involved in Safeguarding Children and Child Protection.
Primary responsibility for the care and protection of children rests with parents, but a range of services is available to help them in this task.
Many referrals to agencies are made by parents seeking help for themselves. Relatives, friends and neighbours may also help directly or encourage families to seek help or alert statutory authorities to children about whom they are concerned.
It is the task of both the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Boards to ensure that the work of all relevant agencies is coordinated and reviewed.
The committee includes representatives from:
- Health – Accident and Emergency, Child Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Community Nursing
- Police
- Local Health Authority - Lead Teacher/Special needs co-ordinator
- Social Care and Health
- Probation
- General Medical Practitioner
- National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)
- Community and Environment Services
- Stoke Heath
- Community Mental Health
- Armed Forces
- Youth Offending Team
- Education
