Broseley and Barrow LJC recently met on 2nd December 2009

Thank you to the Victoria Hall, Broseley, for hosting the latest meeting of the Broseley and Barrow Local Joint Committee which met on 2 December 2009. It was great to see so many members of the public taking the time to come along.

As part of the meeting the Committee received a presentation from Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council and Cheryl Williams, Corporate Finance Manager. The presentation included a consultation exercise to seek local people’s views on proposals for Shropshire Council’s 2010/11 budget.

The Committee also received an update report on highways issues and confirmation that Broseley Post Office would be relocating as planned. Concerns raised during the consultation period about the state of the car parking facilities had been brought to the attention of the owners of the car park and plans for a designated disabled car parking space are now being considered.

The Community Regeneration Officer gave an update report on the progress of the current projects for leisure facilities in the town including information on the Birchmeadow Centre building, the Multi Use Games Area project, and the Birchmeadow Park.

As the Local Joint Committee has a budget to fund projects that benefit the wider community, three applications for funding were considered at length and awards were given to the following groups:

Four applications for grant funding were considered and awards were given totalling £2,600 to the following groups:

Broseley Boxing Club, St Winifred’s Church Committee, Breathing Place for Broseley and Barrow – Wyldwoods and Willey Village Hall for the painting of the outside of the building.

A total of £5,100 now remains in the budget and applications for the next round must be submitted by 3rd February 2010.

Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.

The next meeting of the Committee will be at 7 pm on Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at the Birchmeadow Centre, Broseley.
