Council tax
Council Tax is essential for funding a wide range of local services and is a property-based tax payable on most domestic properties. Generally this means houses or flats but it can also include other types of dwelling, such as an annexe or caravan. Valuation is based on an assessment of capital values.
Shropshire Council sets its council tax levels annually and the tax accounts for about a third of the council's total income.
The total council tax payable is made up of charges for services provided by Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police Authority, Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority and your parish/town council. Households receive a single bill with each element shown separately. To see the element payable for services provided by Shropshire Council see the attachment on this page - Council Tax Charges.
Valuations
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) is responsible for the valuation of properties for council tax and business rates. Their website has the facility to view council tax bands and rateable values for individual properties. Appeals and enquiries should be directed to your local valuation office at Darwin House, 2 The Mount, Shrewsbury SY3 8PU.
