Shropshire County Council held a by-election in the Market Drayton electoral division on Thursday 5 June 2008.

The result was:

ERWIN David Sydney - The Conservative Party - 1178 votes
GOULD Michael - Independent - 170 votes
PHILLIPS Colin William - Independent - 362 votes
WALKER Roger Elwyn - The Labour Party - 510 votes

Therefore, David Sydney Erwin is elected.

The turnout was 25.2 per cent.

Following this by-election, the make-up of the county council is as follows:

Conservatives: 28 seats (out of 48)
Liberal Democrats: 11 seats
Labour: 9 seats
