Pandemic Influenza is when a flu virus affects the world as a whole.
The Government’s Chief Medical Officer says that it is unlikely that such a virus will originate in the UK. If a pandemic virus emerges abroad, we will probably not be able to prevent its global spread, but we will have considerable warning and by being prepared we can significantly reduce its impact.
Shropshire Council’s Emergency Planning Unit has been developing contingency plans with regional health and other partners to make sure that we are able to deal with an outbreak should Pandemic Influenza occur and that these plans are as finely tuned as possible.
Shropshire Council also has a role, along with partners, in making sure that local people are informed in a clear, open and helpful way about these issues.
