The Sustainability Group is responsible for providing an information and research service to support and inform the work of the group and Shropshire County Council. The group also provides information to other local authorities, public and private organisations/agencies and members of the public. The group is responsible for or has access to a wide range of information and data, which covers socio-economic data, land use planning monitoring and data relating to the natural and historic environment. This includes:

  • population
  • housing and households
  • census
  • labour force and the economy

Within the Sustainability Group information is used to inform the Local Development Plan process, regional planning monitoring, informing policy decisions, forecasting population and labour force changes, performance monitoring, validating existing data sets, targeting resources and preparing bids for funding. Information is also used when advising on planning policy, development control, property and highway management and maintenance, sustainability management, environmental condition monitoring and in environmental enhancement work.
