
Monthly unemployment
Figures for December 2011 show that the number of claimants in Shropshire has increased to 4,906 or 2.7% as a percentage of the working age population. The percentage out of work has increased from the previous month in one of the three Partnership areas. The Northern Area increased to 3.1%, whilst the Central Area remained at 2.9% and the Southern Area figure remained at 2.2%.
Numbers and rates
In December 2011, the total claimant count unemployment rate was 2.7% in Shropshire, 4.8% in the West Midlands and 3.9% in Great Britain.
Change
- Total unemployment in Shropshire increased by 0.66% between November 2011 and December 2011.
- Unemployment over the same period of time in the West Midlands increased by 0.44% and in Great Britain increased by 0.69%.
- Over the past year unemployment has increased by 6.47% in Shropshire, this can be compared to an increase of 7.98% in the West Midlands and an increase of 10.34% in Great Britain.
Flows in Shropshire
Between January 2011 and December 2011, 13,044 people left the claimant count and 13,391 people became unemployed.
