Shropshire County Council now have five exemplar sites in the county.

These sites are situated;

  • South of Shrewsbury near Condover
  • North of Shrewsbury near Hadnall
  • In the south of the county near Ludlow
  • In the Oswestry area, near West Felton
  • Craven Arms, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

These are sites that we staff with qualified Forest School Leaders, employed as such by SCC. Local schools and settings can access sessions at these sites throughout the academic year.

Initially, these schools and settings access the Forest School sessions free of charge, Shropshire County Council fund the Forest School Leader and the site, and the only cost to the setting is the transport to and from the site.
The ideal is that the school / setting will access Forest School sessions for the whole year. However, to enable other children to access it, sessions are often broken down into visits for the whole of half of a term.

To maintain the quality of the experience, we ask that class numbers are kept low for Forest School sessions. The adult : child ratio, is kept high.

In addition to these exemplar sites and sessions there, many schools now have staff that are Forest School Leader trained. They deliver Forest School sessions regularly on their own school grounds.
