Monday: 9.30am to 5pm

Returning items out of hours

Items can be returned through the letter box in the library door at the following times:

  • from 7am Monday to Saturday
  • from 12.30pm on Sunday
  • up to 15 minutes after the library has closed.

Items returned before opening time will be taken off your library card using the previous day as the return date.

Facilities

Shrewsbury Library is Shropshire's largest library, located in the heart of the county town, near to the main bus terminus and the railway station.

The library has a range of books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and language packs, public access computers with free access to the Internet and a Wi-Fi hotspot. There is a coffee area and the Hobbs Room can be hired for public use.

Reference Service

Shrewsbury Library has the largest collection of reference books, newspapers, magazines and information resources in the county.

Music and Drama Service

Based in Shrewsbury Library this is the main county collection of music and drama resources in Shropshire. Other libraries across the county hold representative selections of music and drama books. For more details follow the link on this page.

Shropshire Archives

The main archive of local history material is based in the same complex. For more information follow the link on this page.

Home Library Service

The Building

Shrewsbury Library is housed in a Grade A listed historic building dating back in part to the 15th Century, and formerly used by Shrewsbury School. Group visits to the library are welcome, and librarians are very happy to go out and visit groups. If your club, class or pre-school group are interested, please ask.
