All admissions to schools in England are co-ordinated by Local Authorities. Parents complete just one common application for their home Local Authority, (i.e. the authority where you live), regardless of the location of the schools to which they want to apply. This means that if you live in Shropshire Council's administrative area, you must apply to this council. For further information please follow the Who to apply to for a school places link on this page.
Transferring to secondary school - September 2012
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING WAKEMAN SCHOOL:
Shropshire Council’s Cabinet has made the decision to close Wakeman School in July 2013. This decision would normally mean that the school would not be receiving Year 7 pupils in the autumn term of 2012.
However, on 27 September, Cabinet’s decision was referred to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator, who will review the decision based on an examination of all the available evidence. Although the Schools Adjudicator endeavours to reach a decision within 6 weeks, there is no guarantee that this will be the case.
In the intervening period, parents and carers will still have the opportunity to express a preference for their child to transfer to the Wakeman School. Should the Adjudicator decide to uphold the decision to close the school, then a member of Shropshire Council’s School Admissions Team will contact any applicants who have named Wakeman as one of their preferred schools to discuss alternative preferences.
For further advice on this matter or any assistance in making application for transfer to secondary school, please contact a member of the Admissions Team on 0345 678 9008.

Changing schools
If you wish to change your child's school at any other time you will need to complete a mid-term or “in-year” application form. All completed application forms must be returned to the Admissions Team by either the applicant or the school. For further information please follow the Changing your child's school link on this page.
Parents have a legal right to express a preference for which school they want their child to attend. This is not the same as being able to choose, but means that if a parent expresses a preference for a particular school and there are places available at the school then a place should be offered at that school.
