Exercise on Referral Scheme
The Exercise on Referral Scheme is a partnership between Shropshire Council and Shropshire County PCT. The aim is to help people with limiting physical or medical conditions to improve their health through a supported and structured exercise programme.
Why might you be referred?
If your doctor or health professional feels you will benefit from the health improvements, you may be referred to the scheme. You will work with experienced and qualified exercise instructors to safely improve your health over a twelve week programme.
Being involved can:
- help reduce blood pressure
- help reduce the risk of both heart disease and osteoporosis
- control body weight
- increase energy
- Improve stamina, strength, and tone of muscles, shape, appearance, confidence and posture
- It can also reduce stress or depression
Where are these activities held?
Activities are either held in fitness suites or are water-based (swimming pools). Working in water is relaxing. For many people it is pleasant and even fun. The buoyancy of water takes weight and load off the joints which can result in decreased joint pain. Together these benefits of working out in water result in longer and more frequent workouts, providing improved results.
