What is the Trader Register?
The Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Trader Register has been set up for the benefit of both local consumers and businesses.
You will find details of plumbers, electricians, builders, double glaziers, gardeners, painters and decorators, and many more trades.
Businesses registered with the scheme have all demonstrated their commitment to fair and honest trading practices and delivering good customer service
The project aims to reassure consumers, providing information on employing a trader and working with traders to get things right first time.
Consumers
You will find details of plumbers, electricians, builders, double glaziers, gardeners, painters and decorators, and many more trades.
Businesses registered with the scheme have all demonstrated their commitment to fair and honest trading practices and delivering good customer service
The project aims to reassure consumers, providing information on employing a trader and working with traders to get things right first time.
Whilst we cannot recommend a business, you are advised to use traders listed with the Trader Register when looking for a home improvement trader to carry out repairs or building work upon your home.
We know that sometimes problems may arise with work between Trader Register members and consumers. If something has gone wrong, we will work with both parties to seek a positive solution to the issue in accordance with our complaints resolution procedure.
Members must also commit to working with consumers, Trading Standards and other partner agencies to seek positive solutions to issues and problems if and when they do arise.
The Trader Register works closely with the Home Improvement Agencies
in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to help consumers who may benefit from additional support.
The Home Improvement Agencies exist to enable older, disabled or vulnerable people to live in their own homes with comfort, dignity and security. If you feel you may be eligible for assistance, contact the relevant agency. Additional help and support with home improvement, building, repair or adaptation work may be available.

The agencies can help supervise work, assist with accessing grants and loans, or offer a handyperson service to those people that meet certain eligibility criteria.
Businesses
As a trader, you sign up to a code of practice which includes offering a commitment to fair and honest trading practices. The register is not an approval scheme, but aims to reassure consumers that traders who have signed up for the scheme, will work closely with Trading Standards.
Whilst we cannot recommend your business, consumers are advised to use traders listed with the Trader Register when looking for a home improvement trader to carry out repairs or building work upon their home.
The register is free to join and applying is simple. An application form and the Trader Register Code of Practice are included in the download pack.
To join the register, you must demonstrate your commitment to fair and honest trade by agreeing to abide by the Trader Register Code of Practice. This includes:
- complying with all relevant legislation
- treating customers in a polite and courteous manner
- not using high pressure selling techniques
Members must also commit to working with consumers, Trading Standards and other partner agencies to seek positive solutions to issues and problems if and when they do arise. Members are also asked to provide evidence of appropriate insurance upon application.
The Trader Register allows local businesses, whether large or small, the opportunity to set themselves apart from so-called “cowboy builders”, helping consumers to find a trader to carry out work on their home.
Trading Standards offer free business advice to all local businesses to support traders in delivering high quality work to consumers - see the link on this page.
We know that sometimes problems may arise with work between Trader Register members and consumers. If something has gone wrong, please contact us. We will work with you and the consumer concerned to seek a positive solution to the issue in accordance with our complaints resolution procedure.
