Who is eligible for concessionary travel?
Shropshire Council is responsible for administering the concessionary travel scheme, which offers discounted travel on local public transport services for older people or those with a disability.
Please be aware from 6 April 2010 the age of eligibility for concessionary bus travel will increase from 60 to 65 over the next 10 years.
This change, announced by the Government in December 2009, will bring concessionary travel in-line with the changes that are being made to the state pension age from April 2010.

What options for concessionary travel are there?
Those that are eligible are entitled to one of the following options:
Older people (aged 60 or over)
Everyone aged 60 or over and lives within Shropshire is entitled to a National Bus Pass that entitles them to free travel at any time on local bus services starting in Shropshire.
The card can also be used anywhere in England on local bus services between 9.30 am and 11pm, Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays.

Senior rail card
The Senior Rail Card entitles the holder to one third off the cost of rail travel on most national rail services. The cost is £5 per applicant, and is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Community car vouchers
The community car scheme assists local people in making essential journeys such as visits to medical centres, dentists and to visit friends and family in hospital. Applicants are entitled to 20 x £1 Community Car Vouchers for use within the remit of the community car scheme.

Bridgnorth Cliff Railway
The Bridgnorth Cliff Railway Voucher is redeemable at the bottom station of the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway & entitles the applicant to a pack of 36 return tickets.
Concessionary travel for people with certain disabilities
Everyone with a qualifying disability living within Shropshire is entitled has a choice of one of the following from the concessionary travel scheme:
A Disabled Persons National Bus Pass that entitles them to free travel at any time on local bus services starting in Shropshire. The card can also be used anywhere in England on local bus services between 9.30 am and 11pm, Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays.
If you qualify for a concessionary bus travel pass, but find it difficult to use buses without help from another person, you may be eligible for a Companion Bus Pass. Companions are only able to travel on journeys starting in Shropshire.

£30 of National Travel Tokens which can be used locally on buses, trains, taxis, community transport services and the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway.

What identification will I need to bring with me?
Please bring with you a utility bill as proof of your address and one of the following to confirm your age:
- Passport
- Pension Book
- Pension Registration Card
- Birth Certificate
- Driving Licence
We will check your documents and take your photograph to go on the card. Applicants will normally receive their bus pass through the post within 10 working days.
Old-style pass holders (previous Shropshire District and Borough council passes)
Bus passes issued after 1 April 2009 will show the Shropshire Council logo. Passes showing the logos of the previous Districts and Boroughs will continue to be accepted on all local bus services. Passes showing the new logo will be issued after renewal.
Lost Bus Passes
Lost bus passes will be issued free of charge in the first instance. For subsequent replacement cards Shropshire Council reserve the right to charge a fee to cover any costs in issuing a new pass unless you can produce a valid police incident number to prove your pass has been stolen.
