In addition to recycling and refuse collections, all Shropshire households are offered a kerbside collection of garden waste and cardboard which is taken for composting. The types of material we can accept with this service includes:
Garden waste
Such as leaves, flowers and plants, grass cuttings, hedge and tree prunings (up to about 5cm diameter) and similar materials.
Cardboard
Any type of cardboard including cereal boxes, toilet roll inserts, brown corrugated cardboard boxes, sleeves from food containers etc. Please ensure that any plastic wrapping is removed.
*Please note in South Shropshire and North Shropshire districts you can also include kitchen waste within the bin. This is because organic waste collected in these areas is send to special facilities which are also capable of processing kitchen waste. In the longer term we are planning to offer this type of service across the whole of Shropshire but at present you must not put kitchen waste in your organics bin if you live in the Bridgnorth, Oswestry or Shrewsbury areas.
Kitchen waste - (South Shropshire and North Shropshire areas only)
Food waste such as fruit, vegetables, peelings, cooked food, meat, fish and bones, egg shells, bread and cakes, tea bags and coffee grounds. May be wrapped in paper if necessary.
For more information about any local variations such as which materials go into which colour box or bin in your area, please follow the appropriate link based on the district in which you live.
