Every year we each throw away 3 electrical items on average. You can recycle any small electrical items at the five main Household Recycling Centres (HRC's) in Shropshire:
- Shrewsbury HRC (Battlefield Enterprise Park)
- Oswestry HRC (Mile Oak Industrial Estate)
- Whitchurch HRC (Waymills Civic Park)
- Craven Arms HRC (off Long Lane)
- Bridgnorth HRC (Stanley Lane)
What type of electricals will you accept?
We can recycle anything which needs electricity to operate, as a simple rule of thumb thats 'anything with a battery or a plug', including:
- irons
- kettles
- toasters
- electric shavers
- hair straighteners
- mobile phones
- cameras
- radios
- electric tooth brushes
- blenders
- computer game consules
- power tools
- hair dryers
- coffee machines
What happens to the electricals?
The electrical items get sent to Overton Recycling in Dudley (near Birmingham) for recycling. They are hand sorted before being stripped down to remove any metals or other recyclable materials.
Why recycle electricals?
By recycling electrical waste you can keep this waste out of landfill. This is especially important with electricals because many items contain rare and precious metals which are hard to come by. Its also helping to reduce the need for more materials to be mined so its reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
