What happens to the plastic bottles?
It’s taken to a sorting facility in Wolverhampton then sent to UK manufacturers including Closed Loop Recycling in Dagenham and Jayplas in Loughborough, to be made into new plastic products such as compost bins, drainage pipes and even more plastic bottles.
Why recycle plastic bottles?
Recycling plastic bottles helps reduce landfill and also saves energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Making new plastic is so energy intensive that by recycling just a tonne of plastic you prevent over a tonne and a half of CO2 emissions. Recycling a single plastic bottle saves enough energy to power a 60 watt light bulb for six hours.
