This proposal follows the completion and analysis of a questionnaire distributed to residents in May / June 2022 and a further public consultation workshop in December 2022. The proposal is intended to reduce vehicle congestion, facilitate the safe passage of traffic and access to property whilst giving residents equal opportunity to park near to their homes. The introduction of virtual permitting and visitor hours will give improved access and greater flexibility in service provision. It is proposed:

THE SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL (PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF WAITING AND PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2009 (WEST CASTLE STREET AND NEW ROAD, BRIDGNORTH) (AMENDMENT) ORDER
Shropshire Council proposes to make the following changes to the parking restrictions on West Castle Street and New Road in Bridgnorth:
No waiting at any time
West Castle Street (west side) |
From its junction with Postern Gate southwards to a point four metres north of the property boundary of no. 16 West Castle Street and Castle Hall West Castle Street. |
New Road (west side) |
From a point one metre south of the northernmost property wall of 21 West Castle Street to the southernmost property wall of 21 West Castle Street. |
West Castle Street (west side) |
From the west side of the castle grounds entrance for a distance of eight metres in a northerly direction. |
West Castle Street (east side) |
From its junction with Postern Gate southwards to a point in line with the northern side of the gated entrance to the courtyard of The Shakespeare, West Castle Street SV16 4AD From a point in line with the property boundary of no. 54 and no. 55 West Castle Street southwards to a point two metres north of the property boundary of no. 51 and no. 52 West Castle Street. |

From its junction with New Road for a distance of 12 metres in a southerly direction. |

From a point two metres north of the property boundary of no. 35 and no. 36 West Castle Street southwards then eastwards to its junction with St Mary’s Steps. |

From the east side of the castle grounds entrance for a distance of six metres in a northerly direction. From a point three metres east of the castle access for a distance of four metres in an easterly direction. From a point 13 metres east of the east side of the castle access entrance to the easternmost building line of no. 23 Tower House. |

From a point two metres north of the property boundary of no. 51 and no. 52 West Castle Street southwards to a point one metre north of the north side of the pedestrian access to flat no. 46 and flat no. 47 West Castle Street. From a point in line with the property boundary of no. 44 and no. 45 West Castle Street southwards to a point two metres north of the property boundary of no. 35 and no. 36 West Castle Street. |

Any existing restrictions at the above locations will be revoked.
Eligible residents of the West Castle Street scheme will be able to purchase one resident parking permit per premise, with one car registration allowed per permit, at a cost of £100.
Eligible residents of West Castle Street will receive 200 hours of visitor permits per year if they buy a residents parking permit. Eligible residents who do not purchase a residents parking permit may buy the same amount of visitors permits at a cost of £5 per year.
Eligible residents of West Castle Street may also apply for an evening car park permit (max one per household) to park in North or South Listley Street car park, between 4pm and 10am, at an annual cost of £384. Spaces are limited, so they will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis.
Proprietors of holiday let properties located within the West Castle Street scheme may purchase a parking permit for use by their customers during the rental of the holiday let property. Each establishment will be entitled to purchase one digital permit annually at a cost of £100.
The provision that allows businesses to buy residents parking permits will be withdrawn.
