Interim review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations 2022
Shropshire Council is conducting an interim review of polling districts and polling places in accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983 (as amended by the Electoral Administration Act 2006) for the following polling places only:
- Baschurch (Baschurch ward)
- Church Stretton (All Stretton ward)
- Shrewsbury (Bagley ward (part of))
- Shrewsbury (Copthorne ward (part of))
- Shrewsbury (Harlescott ward (part of))
- Shrewsbury (Porthill ward (part of))
The aim of the review is to ensure that:
- Electors in the affected constituency have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances
- As far as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places are accessible to all electors, and when considering the designation of a polling place, must have regard to accessibility needs of disabled person.
In addition, the Returning Officer for Shropshire Council will submit comments on existing arrangements and suggested amendments.
The review will not consider ward boundaries, divisions or parliamentary constituencies.
Definitions
Polling district – the geographical area created by sub-dividing a constituency/ward.
Polling place – the designated area of a polling district in which polling stations are located.
Polling station – the actual area where the process of voting takes place e.g. a room in a community centre or school.
How the review is conducted?
The Returning Officer for Shropshire Council will make comments on the proposed amendments and will make representations to full Council on 22 September 2022.
In addition, representations are invited from other relevant sources such as the electors within the Ludlow, North Shropshire and Shrewsbury and Atcham parliamentary constituencies, elected members, local political parties and organisations that have expertise in relation to access to premises for people with different forms of disability.
The consultation period concluded on 12 August 2022.
