About the programme

A grant scheme has been launched for Shropshire’s Summer Holidays Activities and Food Programme.

DfE grant funding is available through Shropshire Council for groups, organisations and individuals in the county who are delivering a high quality and exciting programme of holiday activity and/or enrichment opportunities over the summer for children and young people (aged 0-16).

The funding is intended to subsidise free places on new or existing holiday programmes for children and young people who are eligible for free school meals. In Shropshire, there are more than 5,000 children and young people registered to claim benefit related free school meals.

We're seeking to engage with a wide network of community-based organisations, including existing holiday care providers, schools, childminders, sports coaching, creative and performing arts providers and many others. Healthy meals must also be provided, and each activity session must last for

  • A minimum of four hours a day
  • For at least four days a week
  • For four weeks in the summer

All children in Shropshire who receive benefits-related free school meals will be eligible to take part in the activities free of charge. If you are able to offer holiday activities that do not fit into this model please do read the HAF guidance on our 'How to apply' page and contact the HAF coordinators with any questions using the contact details on this page.

Grants will be awarded to organisations who can demonstrate an ability to deliver:

  • High quality enriching activities
  • Provide healthy meals
  • Skills, activities/classes aimed at helping children and their parents to make healthy and affordable choices
  • A positive legacy that lasts longer than the experience

We're also looking for organisations who will be interested in applying for an enrichment-only grant which doesn't need to conform to the 4x4x4 model (above) and would be classed as drop-in or one-off sessions.

To apply for the grants go to our 'How to apply' page. The application deadline is 1 June 2021.
