Saturday get-togethers 3pm – 5pm

Regular weekly meetings at the Quakers Meeting House on Saturdays will continue into the autumn/winter, apart from Saturday 17 September. On Saturday afternoons guests can:

  • Complete an English diagnostic assessment and book lessons
  • Hosts/guests can collect SIM cards
  • Talk to a volunteer or a member of the Enable service about help with finding a job, and making contact with local employers, again via Enable
  • Use a laptop, and get help if you're struggling with IT and need support
  • Book a lift to an appointment or social event etc
  • Take home children’s games, books and toys
  • Look through and take home donated clothes, both children’s and adults. Autumn/ winter clothing stock now being organised!
  • Meet with professionals including health care specialists on a monthly basis

A 31" TV and a Silver Cross pram/pushchair (suitable up to age 5) have been donated if those are of interest to any family. They're not currently at the Quakers Meeting house but can be delivered if wanted.

Very importantly hosts, guests and volunteers meet informally to promote friendships and discuss and plan for social activities.

Week and weekend transport available

We're very aware that public transport is limited in south Shropshire and north Herefordshire, and want to enable guests to plan trips to lessons, appointments with the jobcentre, social events etc. We can pick up throughout southwest Shropshire and the Herefordshire borders, as long as we have enough notice and have volunteers available. Please give four days notice to book your lift. Peter Higgins is our transport coordinator, and Peter's contact details are: email refugeesludlow@gmail.com or mobile 07757989708.

Facebook group

We'd like to reach as many hosts, guests and volunteers as possible so please forward the Ludlow Refugee Support Group Facebook group link as widely as you can.

Autumn activities

We're at the planning stage for organising the following:

  • Guests cooking together – venue agreed, with a volunteer who holds a food hygiene certificate to provide some help. Date in October to be confirmed. Cooking ingredients provided. Use Facebook to register your interest
  • Craft activities for children during the October school holiday (Monday 25 October – Friday 29 October)
  • Any other suggestions, such as film nights, games nights, shared suppers etc, welcome
