Family Relationships – Preferred language and support options

We know that all relationships go through troubling times and all parents will struggle, from time to time, with co-parenting, whether they are together with their child’s other parent or not.  In the Strengthening Families team, we want to support families in Shropshire and improve our services where needed.

We are asking all parents, whether in a relationship or not, their thoughts on the language and approaches that practitioners might use to support local families.  We are not asking you about your relationships, in this survey.  We only want to know about the language you use and the approaches that you might find helpful, if you did need support at some point.

We don’t make judgements about the situation you’re in: to some degree, we all experience problems in our relationships, it’s completely normal and we are not assuming that you do require support, just because you complete this survey.  We are just asking you to help us.

We don’t think that families in Shropshire use the official language of:

“Parental conflict” - to describe unhappiness and poor communication between parents.

or:

“Relationship distress” – to describe how parents feel when their relationship with their partner is very difficult.   And we’d like to use the language that you use.

Thank you for supporting us to support Shropshire families.

Share your thoughts with us by completing our survey.
