The Healthy Child Programme

The Healthy Child Programme is a framework for the delivery of a wide range of universal services for families from pregnancy to age 19, including maternity, health visiting, the Family Nurse Partnership, school nurses and schools-based programmes. Find out more from the Shropshire Community Health Trust website.

Further information is available from our Parenting Team and early years and childcare pages.

All 3 to 4-year-olds in England can get 570 free hours per year. It’s usually taken as 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year, but you can choose to take fewer hours over more weeks. Find out more from the Gov.UK website.

Healthy Start

Healthy Start is an NHS scheme that supports families on low income to buy fruit, vegetables and milk, and to access free vitamins.

In Shropshire, uptake of the NHS Healthy Start Voucher Scheme has fallen below 30%.

Many Shropshire families are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. It has never been more important for the most vulnerable families to access the financial support available to them.

At Shropshire Council we want to encourage eligible families to apply for Healthy Start. We've been working with partners, including Shropshire Food Poverty Alliance and the Trussell Trust, to improve awareness and uptake of the NHS Healthy Start Scheme.

There is a helpline where an interpreter can be requested to support eligible families if necessary.
