Recycling and reuse

Recycling

Please refer to our website and recycling policy for further information, including reference to single-use plastics. Both domestic and commercial recycling is delivered by our service provider Veolia Shropshire.

Find out how you can achieve economic benefits and resource efficiency.

Plastic Free Communities (hosted by Surfers Against Sewage) is about kicking our addiction to avoidable single-use plastic and changing the system that produces it: "We're creating the Plastic Free Community network to free where we live from single use. Together we're tackling avoidable single-use plastic, from the beach all the way back to the brands and businesses who create it."

Re-use

Warp it logoWe've initiated a re-use distribution network called Warp-it (Waste Action Re-use Portal) for repurposing stationery, furniture and other office equipment. This service helps to repurpose and relocate office furniture and equipment to where it's needed, and is available for use by Shropshire Council service areas, town and parish councils, schools and academy trusts, charities, and not-for-profits.

It's not available for personal use (for which there are services like Freecycle and Freegle), so please don't sign up with a private email address.

The portal allows you to repurpose equipment within your own organization and exchange any items you wish with public-sector, third sector and business partners. The schools network puts schools and academies in touch with schools across the West Midlands.

So far, we have 611 members, and collectively they’ve managed to save:

  • £160k (in procurement and disposal costs)
  • 40 tonnes waste avoided
  • 90 tonnes CO2 greenhouse gas emissions saved
  • 121 trees equivalent or 40 cars off the road

What items can be reused through Warp It?

Any office item (including working from home); Furniture, stationery, electrical
equipment (in compliance with PAT testing and fire safety), fixtures and fittings. So long
as the item is purely for work purposes, then it can be transferred.

How do I register?

Please follow the links above depending on the type of organisation:
