Shropshire Council

Homeworking

  • More than one in six Shropshire residents in employment at the time of the last census worked mainly from home - a much higher number than was the case regionally or nationally
  • The majority of homeworkers were self-employed, and almost half of all self-employed people worked primarily from home
  • Men were more likely to work from home than women, primarily because men were more than twice as likely as women to be self-employed
  • Older workers were much more likely to work from home than younger workers
  • Homeworking was particularly common in the most rural parts of Shropshire, and much less common in towns like Shrewsbury and Oswestry
